The Swims

Peg 1 - Matts Meadow

The meadow swim is located on the north-west end of the lake, adjacent to our camping meadow . It is a grass bank and has a fantastic view looking east across the water towards the Island. Directly next to the brook which feeds the lake, the fish like to move into this swim during the early mornings and evenings. This corner is also home to an aeration unit.

Peg 2 - Harrisons Hollow

Moving anti clock-wise around the lake, This swim is found on the south-west bank. This swim has shallow margins sloping down to a 7ft crater, which gives this peg its name. The stream bed meanders through this crater moving west to east through the lakebed. The fish love to patrol the margins of this swim!

Peg 3 - The Boathouse

This cosy spot is situated a little further along the lake’s stream bed, where it drops to around 6ft deep. It is the closest bankside peg to the island, and anglers will also find shallows and lily pads nearby

Peg 4 - Point Break

Centrally located on the south bank of the lake, this peg can command a lot of the water during the winter months. When spring rolls around it becomes alive with interesting features, such as lily pads, potamogeton and depths that vary from 2ft to 6ft+

Peg 5 - Mogg Wood

Located in the south east corner of the pool, This is a shady spot on the bank not too far from the south outlet. The swim is sandwiched between large lily and potamogeton beds, which the fish love to patrol. Depths vary from 2ft to 9ft+.

Peg 6 - Crabtrees

Situated before the staging on the dam and looking west towards the Island, these end swims can command a large area of the lake.. Both have open water interspersed with lily beds and with depths of up to 12ft. This is a very silty area but the fish love to gather here, especially during the colder months of the year

STALKERS WALK

The pathway along the Northern Bank of the lake, fondly referred to as stalkers walk. There are a number of old pegs and holes all along the bank towards the back of the island. Often the fish like to gather in the shallows and lilly pads - perfect for some summer stalking.

Lake History

1987

The Pool was purchased by Alan Russell in 1987, fulfilling a childhood dream. The pool was surrounded by sedges and was only a decade or so away from being reclaimed by nature and reverting to bogland

1988

The pool was drained and de-silted, with the edges being re-defined and the establishment of proper banks. Including the construction of the Island.

1990-

By the early 1990s the pool had been been fully renovated and the boathouse constructed. This would have been around the time visitors first fished the lake

De-silting

In Spring 2019 the lake was drained. Peter Wilde of Wildes, Shrewsbury did an absolutely fantastic job of de-silting the inlet end of the pool, hauling 100s of tonnes of sediment from the bed and re-defining the banks.

Re-stocking

The lake was re-stocked in late 2019 and again in 2023 with Scaly Mirror, Mirror, Zip Linear and Common Carp to 22lb+. After an intensive feeding program our stock in now into the 28lb+ range.

Renovating

We have fully fenced the pool to protect from unwanted predators (which is proving successful so far), and continue to work hard redefining the paths and pegs as needed

Our Plans

From the 1980’S through to the present day, the pool has had numerous uses, makeovers and adjustments.  Our plans for the future are to continue to improve the site and make it into a prime location for both carp fishing, nature lovers, and outdoor leisure and relaxation. Welcoming both visitors and the local community. Keep an eye out for updates on our plans.
